Kaja Leijon (b.1980) works with film and photography, constructing a plausible yet unsettled fictional universe. Her practice explores the fragile tension between reality and interpretation, where existential states such as reverie through solitude take form. Her photographs illuminate what is overlooked, appearing as poetry rendered visible and seeking shelter in fragility.
Leijon lives and works in Ursvik, Nesodden. Selected exhibitions include I Was Looking Back To See If You Were Looking Back At Me To See Me Looking Back At You (Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, 2019), White Dust and Another World (MELK Gallery, Oslo, 2018 and 2015), Dark Haven (Kunstnerforbundet, Oslo, 2017), No Fear (Podium, Oslo, 2023 and Open Video XVII (Spitsbergen Artists Center, Svalbard, 2025). Her work has been shown at institutions such as Palais de Tokyo, Kunsthalle Mainz, and Haus der Kulturen der Welt. Leijon holds a Diploma from the National Academy of Fine Arts, Oslo.
